In 9 European countries 36 museums are opening their doors to 106 young artists: “Gemine Muse 2004” is going to widen its horizons and goes over the Italian borders for the third edition of the contemporary art review, organized from November 2004 to Febuary 2005. A series of exhibitions with works inspirited by the masterpieces of the museums collections, a dialogue between the contemporary and the ancient art, a link among the expressive shapes of artists of different generations and times. From the past to the present and to the future. The already consolidated review of contemporary art promoted by the associations GAI – Association for Young Italian Artists Circuit, CIDAC – Association of the Cities of Art and Culture, in cooperation with DARC – General Direction of Contemporary Architecture and Art of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities and with the support of CULTURE 2000 –Department for Education and Culture of the European Commission, is involving this year besides the museums of 28 Italian cities, also the museums of 8 other European countries. “After the gratifying success of the past editions –as Fiorenzo Alfieri, President of the Associations GAI and Cidac is explaining– we decided to extend our artistic network also to the international scenario, with the strengthening of our efforts in Italy”. The edition of Gemine Muse 2004/2005, under the artistic co-ordination of Giacinto Di Pietrantonio, in collaboration with a group of 47 European art critics, is distinguished for the exchange of experiences between young Italian and European artists and for the strong relation with the art of the past and the cultural heritage of each participating country. According to Giacinto Di Pietrantonio “for this international edition, Gemine Muse maintains same essential concept: the comparison between the identity of the past and of the present, which is in fact the experience that generates every civilisation and its symbolic imagination represented by art”. “the correlation between the art of the past and everyday life and art is a relevant subject for the creativity of young generations” says the curator. “This issue creates the necessity to place side by side an active form of art and a classic form of art, making possible, beyond cataloguing and conservation, the development and the actualisation of art through the work of contemporary artists”. Gemine Muse –the evolution of an idea of Virginia Baradel and Giuliano Pisani in the city of Padua- represents a sort of virtual bridge between the past, the present and the future of art. Young artists enter museums, they explore and penetrate the secrets of the exhibited masterpieces from which they get inspiration for producing their own contemporary work, offering new and surprising interpretations. The result is certainly stimulating, since the young artists are given the rare opportunity to work in the venues of important museums, inventing a different approach to ancient art forms and new formulas of interaction with past and tradition. Among the goals of this initiative, the most relevant are the knowledge and valorisation of artistic European heritage, the opening of new horizons for young people through the mobility and the exchanges with other countries, the support to the production of unpublished works and the co-operation among the Institutions and other subjects, like ancient art museums, public institutions, emerging artists and international critics. The 2004 Gemine Muse edition expands its activities in Europe with the collaboration of 8 European countries. The new museums included in the Gemine Muse "network", are the Benaki Museum of Athens (Greece), the Musée des Beaux Arts of Lyon (France), the Manege Exhibition Hall of St. Petersburg (Russia), the National Museum of Prague (Czech Republic), the Amstelkring Museum of Amsterdam (Netherlands), the Roman City Museum of Roman (Romania), the Gallen-Kallela Museum of Espoo (Finland) and the Mestrovič Museum of Split (Croatia).
